Remodeling can seem tricky and scary, especially since it is a step into the unknown for many. Well, we hope to convey that it’s not so scary as you think! If you’re equipped with the right questions for your designer, questions you may not have even thought of, you’ll be on your way to success! We’re not talking the obvious questions like “How much will this cost me?” or “How long will it take from start to finish?”. No, we’re talking more detailed questions to ask your designer that will make a difference in the end result of your remodel. Check them out:
What is the finishing process of the cabinetry?
This is an important question to ask your designer. Not only will it affect the quality but also durability and strength of the finish. There is a major difference in cabinets that are finished in a factory setting versus cabinets finished on-site. With what we provide, and dependent on the cabinet line, there is a several step finishing process for stains and paints to ensure colorfastness. All our lines are finished in a factory setting (unless specifically specified not to), so no painting on-site or in your home. Cabinets are delivered beautifully finished and ready to install! Learn why the investment in cabinetry is important here.
How are the drawers constructed, and how far do they extend?
This is something that would affect you on a daily basis, and simple qualities such as full-extension will make a big difference in your kitchen. Maybe not something you would think to ask? Well, you definitely should! In all our cabinet lines, we specify drawers to be dovetail construction, full-extension, and soft close. Such little luxuries that make a huge difference.
Do I want toe-kick space on all sides of my island?
This question depends on how you want to use your island. Does it only have one working side? Does it include seating? These all depend on how we would design the toe space on your island. Talk to your design about this, because it could affect the look you are going for.
How decorative should I go? Do I include decorative end panels on my cabinets?
This is a question that is up to you as a client to answer. Having end panels will provide a more finished look, but by all means is not necessary. If you have an island, we will almost always finish the sides with decorative panels. If you want to go a step further, you could finish all ends of cabinets with decorative end panels. Have your designer provide drawings of what each will look like, that will help ensure your decision on the matter.
Should I have integrated appliances or not?
This question is another decision that is ultimately up to you and the look you are going for. But, asking your designer about the integrated options will help you finalize your decision. Do you want a seamless look with appliances hidden behind cabinetry panels? Or are you happy with appliances exposed? There is no right or wrong to this, it all depends on the end look you are going for.
