LAKEWOOD - DALLAS, TX

For a family of six, the kitchen was in need of minor updates to better suit their storage needs and home dynamics. A four-foot Galley workstation allows one parent and one child to prep and wash almost simultaneously, while the cabinets are full of organizational solutions that make it easier to work. The slightly angled seating part of the island countertop gives the extra workspace needed to easily fit all four kids, so they can each have their own separate homework space in the afternoons—there are four total plugs under the overhang, one for each laptop.

The parents coffee/tea station is relegated to the pantry to make room for more high-use items in the kitchen that all 6 family members use. The pantry also has a separate “step” made specifically for water bottles, so each kid can grab and go depending on who has the next game or event to attend.

In the mudroom, we have four cubbies (one for each child) and two additional drawers on the opposite side for parents. Upper shelves are used for family activities—like camping and biking around White Rock Lake—and the location by the garage helps for quick access. Quartz stone tops in this room mimic the kitchen and bar but also create a highly durable work surface for sports equipment and the like.
