Existing dual peninsulas, about 8-feet from range to main sink, and minimal prep space were impractical and dysfunctional for this hobby chef. The bar and desk – their secondary home office – were squeezed together, with zero privacy. Two empty spaces behind the pantry wall were never utilized. Sitting room access was limited. Installing steel beams allowed us to reconfigure walls, creating defined spaces for the kitchen, breakfast, walk-in pantry, mudroom, dry bar, desk, and sitting areas. Traditional molding enhances the design, the layout performs perfectly for this large family, and a 5-foot Galley workstation is our pièce de resistance.
Fully customized cabinetry is painted with a glaze for depth, accented with a brushed stain at the bar and bookcases. Marble-looking quartz counters throughout provide the look we wanted along with that extra level of longevity. The thicker mitered-edge island is striking, mimicking the corbel details at both the island back and bar area. A mix of light and dark grey tile speckle the backsplash, and stainless fixtures provide a neutral backdrop. The 5-foot Galley Double Bowl, Work & Washstation provides ample space for a two person prep and/or cleaning zone.
More than a kitchen, this entire side of the house is now functional and friendly for the entire family – and guests! An ergonomically designed kitchen with room for 4 at the island. Separate dry bar and semi-private desk areas. A functional and storage friendly mudroom, and workhorse walk-in pantry. Stunning bookcases and gorgeous views through the sitting and breakfast rooms. What else could you have asked for? (Hint: Nothing!)
