LAKE HIGHLANDS - DALLAS, TX

This 1978 home was purchased by our homeowners 17 years prior to engaging us for a remodel. The homeowners like moody, earthy, more traditional palettes and like to entertain both small gatherings often and occasionally host larger, catered events.​ Eliminating the wall between the kitchen and living room and redesigning the space with a peninsula kept our defined rooms while constructing an open concept. The kitchen design was essentially flipped with deep brown and mid-toned grey tuxedo two-toned cabinetry that ground the open concept space. A dry wine bar at the end of the kitchen matches, with antique mirrored inserts and backsplash for a punch of fun.

In tandem, the remainder of the public space of the home was remodeled to match their updated kitchen. Openings from the entryway to living and dining room and to kitchen were all opened to create a more open and inviting home. A fresh coat of paint and new light fixtures in the front rooms welcome guests. The fireplace – originally a full stone wall, was reworked to minimize it’s footprint in the living room, and clad with new tile, counters to match the kitchen, and framed in a sleek wood stained to match the new engineered wood floors. We also fixed up the stairs by eliminating a turn and landing, creating a straight shot to the upstairs game room and office. New risers, treads, balusters, posts, and handrail now match the updated aesthetic.

The only remaining room? Laundry, of course! Keeping their same units, we changed the opening to a pocket door for easy access, and installed functional cabinetry above for ample storage. A fresh concrete look floor tile gives the room a pop of color and whimsy. The resulting space is a true before and after head turner!
