First Friday Feature: A Sleek and Modern Kitchen

With their old kitchen designed with traditional features, our clients wanted to freshen up their kitchen with a style that matched them, sleek and modern. After all, the architecture of their home was modern, and somehow the original kitchen missed the memo. For us, being able to design a modern and minimalist kitchen was exciting, as those don’t come as often as our transitional and traditional kitchens do. So take a look at our First Friday Feature and explore the design elements that created this space below!

Kitchen Before

Cabinetry

The cabinetry in this space we desgined to have a two-tone dimension, with the wall/tall cabinets in one finish, and the base cabinet in another finish. The wall/tall cabinets are what give this space a texture. They are Elmwood full-access cabinetry, New Haven door, with an Engineered Grey Obeche Horizontal Grain finish. The base cabinety (also the bar area) are Kitchen Craft cabinetry, Summit Horizontal door, White Oak wood, with a finish of Charcoal stain. We love the cobination of these two finishes!

Countertops and Backsplash

What gives this space a sleek and clean look, is that we used the same material as the countertops and used it as a backsplash. On top of that, we incorporated a waterfall where the countertop runs down the side of the cabinetry on the island give it a seamless look. The material used is a 3cm quartz from Cambria in a Torquay finish.

Fixtures and Finishes

As for the fixtures and finishes, we wanted something elegant yet industrial. Blanco had the perfect faucet giving us exactly what we were looking for. The faucet is a Blanco Culina Semi-Pro 1.8 GPM  in a Satin Nickel finish (441407). The sink also from Blanco, is in a streamlined shape giving us that modern feel. It is a Blanco PRECIS™ 1-3/4 16” in a Cinder finish (441479)

Special Features

Cabinets aren’t just empty holes you know. They have drawers, shelves, and sometimes they have some special features. For the wall cabinets we’ve incorporated flip-up doors, and taken one cabinet to the counter to create a space for small appliances. We also have a Lehmans pull-out in a base cabinet that helps to organize that awkward corner cabinet.

We hope you enjoyed this First Friday Feature, be sure to check out some of our other modern features, here and here.
