Favorite Kitchen Design Trends 2017

When it comes time for a kitchen or bath remodel, we tend to look around for inspiration, right? Well, where do you look? Most might say they do a google search, create a board on Pinterest, or even check out Houzz. Well lucky us, in our industry we are surrounded by inspiration every day.  With 2017 already in full swing, and with projects underway we’ve taken notice of some of the big trends that are here to stay for 2017. Read more below on our favorite trends this year:

Color in your Cabinetry

Whether you’re into vibrant colors or enjoying mixing it up with muted tones, this is a fun trend to watch out for. Our favorite way to use color is to do tuxedo-style cabinets. This is where the upper cabinets are one finish, and the bottom cabinets are another. This is a neat and easy way to add interest and style. Something we also love: the island in a contrasting finish from the rest of the kitchen.

Accent Color Backsplash

Want to add pizazz to your kitchen space? Well, look no further. Adding a pop of color in your backsplash is a surefire way to give your kitchen character. Look out for reds, greens, and blue-tones this year. Only want a little pop of color? Then add a picture frame over the cooktop for instant interest. You don’t need to add a lot to utilize this trend.

Cultivating

Something awesome and interesting we saw this year at KBIS was the Urban Cultivator. Who’s tried growing herbs in their kitchen and they all end up dying? Well, this cultivator takes care of your herbs and micro greens for you. We love that this brings the green into your home in a wholesome and healthy way. Learn more about the Urban Cultivator here.

Contrasting Hoods

Definitely not a new trend, but we are seeing it more. We love that our client’s want to mix it up by incorporating a different finish to their hoods such as a wood, or contrasting paint color. One of our favorite finishes to add contrast with is metal. A custom metal hood is a great way to have your kitchen stand-out.

Textures

Incorporating simple textures to your space adds warmth, interest, and style. Even if you want all your finishes in one color, adding texture adds an interesting element to a monochromatic design. Ways to incorporate texture: adding wood elements, stone (wall, backsplash, etc), tiles with a ripple effect, and the list goes on.

Top Kitchen Design Trends of 2016

Are you thinking about doing a kitchen remodel or kitchen update? Well,  before any money is spent, we believe that it’s very important to be informed of current design trends. Every year trends come and go, but our favorite tends to be the ones that can stand the test of time.

  1. Neutral Color Palette

You can’t go wrong with sticking with a neutral color palette. This isn’t technically a “trend” but has in the past years picked up steam and played a huge role in the kitchen design industry. Whether it’s an all white kitchen or the use of other neutral elements such as grey, this palette is extremely popular as it is classy and timeless. Plus, having a neutral base allows you to style and accessorize interchangeably as the years go by.

2. Open Shelving

Open shelving can be a beautiful break from a long line of upper cabinets. Whether you’re neat and tidy and enjoy displaying everyday dishes, or would rather use open shelving as a way to decorate, this is a good option for all types of clients. This is one of our projects with a beautiful example of open shelving:

3. Quartz Countertops

Quartz has become increasingly popular as a choice for countertops. This material is almost zero maintenance which attracts many customers. Today, there are so many options, even ones that resemble natural stone such as granite and marble.

New Trends in and Kitchen and Bathroom Design

KBIS was great and, as promised, here are a few trends that I spied while walking the trade show floor. The thing that makes me marvel is that design continues to evolve along with technology so that we, as a company interested in both, can now offer so many great products that fit our criteria of being both functional and beautiful.

We are seeing more and more one-touch faucets that come on easily by sensing the user’s hand. What we once thought was Jetson-esque is quickly becoming every day. This same technology is being used in both kitchen and bath faucets and I personally love that they are not only easy to use but “green” as well since they automatically turn off after the motion from your hands is discontinued. Another interesting trend for our bathroom remodelers is the idea of shower doors on rollers. Fleurco, a manufacturer out of Canada, had some beautiful products in the Kinetik line that makes a truly frameless shower. It is well-designed, appears to be very durable and offers flexibility in the way of dimensions – you dream up the size, they will make the door to fit. In addition, the new colors and materials we are seeing are amazing. More later on that…
